Learning Something New
So in job talks, it’s been mentioned that there are opportunities for a flash programmer, and I’ve definitely found myself in this situation before, wishing I knew flash.
Thus, I’ve decided to take fate by the balls, and wrestle this strange new beast of programming to the ground. Then I’ll grind its horns into a fine powder, which I will subsequently snort to assimilate its soul into my own.
I can make banner ads. Time to make a game and a website.

Microsoft Does the Right Thing

People got worried when modders imported Master Chief assets into the PS3 version of UT3, but according to an M$ lawyer, all is well.
The developers aren’t selling the mod, they’re not monetizing Microsoft’s IP, they’re just creating something to share their love of the Master Chief on a new platform…And no one is taking characters from PlayStation games (do they even have any games?) and putting them on our platform…
Happy in the pants.

My Job Situation
So I figured I’ll just write a blog post with all the information in it, since that’s ostensibly what blogs are for– propagating information (heretofore I’ve used it for the sole purpose of propagating dumb shit, so lets see where this goes).
Most people that know me, know I’ve been talking to a game studio in Raleigh regarding employment when my Cisco contract terminates in mid-April. I just had lunch with my potential boss today to firm up the terms, etc. and now you guys get to hear all about it.
Salary: $50k.
Options: None (It’s an LLC, with no intent to sell, thus no options).
Bonus: Performance Bonus at release.
Health Benefits: Fully Paid w/ Blue Cross Blue Shield (I’m told BCBS is best in the state)
401(k): Still being worked out (Still a very new company, so he hasn’t gotten it in stone yet, I expect good things)
Work at home: Possibly, he’s still figuring it out, but it sounds optimistic.
So, the catch? He’s not sure if he’ll be able to get me in by the time Cisco lets me go, which is a little less than a month away (heh, damn that’s soon). He’s trying like hell, but he doesn’t have publisher funding yet, and so the only alternatives are to hire me from company funds, or to get me working for the parent company for awhile. He’s involved in on-going talks, and will try to put something together. I’ll know by the end of the week.
Molyneux Mentions Syndicate, I quiver with elation
I will spare no strongly-worded language to let you know how much this excites me.

I would pop a boner a mile long, and then burst into flames. That’s how excited the prospect of a new Syndicate makes me. I might also claim to have seen God; as well as dancing if I want to and leaving my friends behind.
Fucking A, Peter. You make me hurt so good.
Harmonix to Implement iTunes-style Rock Band store
How is it possible that some companies (Activision I’m looking in your general direction) are able to so fuck up a good thing– whereas some companies just “get it”?
Harmonix, never being one to rest on their laurels, does what needs to be done. Much love.

P.S. — MTV you’ve only begun to make up for past sins, but it’s a good start. Keep the momentum rolling.

Failkart Wii… Fails.
I think I could cry…
The second big difference (in Mario Kart Wii compared to the rest of the series) is the removal of snaking. Ever since the N64 game, practically every Mario Kart game has included the ability to get a speed boost by waggling the controls left and right as you powerslide. This has finally been scrapped, and now your speed boost is determined by how long you can hold the slide.
